I’m trying something new here at The Shifty Eyes Blog. I think it looks snazzy! Very sharp, but I also miss having a little bit of color. We’ll see if it lasts. I may switch out the header for something more colorful.
I also want to be mindful of our low-vision friends. So please let me know if this theme makes it more difficult to read. Or if it makes it better. Or if you just plain don’t like it!

Hello,
I am a 45 year old man who is living with Nystagmus. My Nystagmus developed after I suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2004. I have to say that my heart goes out to anyone who has to live this way. It is a very difficult and uncomfortable way to go through life. Every day is a challenge and every task; even many simple things require extra effort, focus and concentration.
I have a question about medication. I am wondering what/if any medications might help me to be able to better deal with the nystagmus condition. In the past I found that I got some relief from Klonapin(Clonazapam). But I also found that it made me forgetful (among other things). This made it a hindrance to my social life. I got back into the workforce (part-time) a few years ago and I have been taking some classes online to further my education. The stress from working (and life in general) has made my nystagmus worse over the past few years. (When I sleep with my CPAP machine on or if I get ill, it really kicks into high-gear) (I seem to have many problems with allergies, sinus issues and other upper respiratory problems) .
I went to Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia and a Neuro-Optomologist there suggested I try either Neurontin or Memantine.
I really want some relief from my twitching, shifty eyes but I’m hesitant because I really don’t want to slow down my thought processes or interfere with the healing and recovery of my brain. I’m trying to find the right combination for me. I try meditating and doing my eye focusing exercises daily and that does help a bit.
I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has any comments, thoughts or ideas about this posting.
Thank you in advance for your consideration. Take care and God bless you.
Does anyone try acupuncture?
